There are four sites where the Lt James Cook and crew of the Endeavour, together with Tupaia, made landfall and had significant interaction with local Māori.
At each of these locations, Trusts have been established to support national commemorations and organise local events. These are
- Tairāwhiti Gisborne – Te Hā 1769 Sesteracentennial Trust
- Mercury Bay – Mercury 250 Anniversary Trust
- Bay of Islands, Te Tai Tokerau – Te Au Marie 1769 Sestercentennial Trust
- Marlborough – Totaranui 250 Trust
In the Bay of Islands, the Te Au Mārie Trust is working with the other Trusts and the Ministry of Culture & Heritage to coordinate local and national commemorations.
