Are you an innovative, versatile General Manager?  2019 will mark 250 years since Captain Cook and his Polynesian navigator Tupaia entered NZ waters. 

Tuia – Encounters 250 is multi-faceted, nationally significant project celebrating of our dual heritage and history of voyaging.   We need a GM who can develop and lead the Northland / Tai Tokerau programme of events and activities to enhance the social, cultural, ecological and economic aspects of our region.  You will have a clear understanding of the importance of our region’s Dual Heritage-Shared Future, and an ability to lead and manage complex projects/services/events, experience in financial management, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Your ability to work closely with national and local stakeholders will be key, in particular with Iwi and mana whenua. Strategic and political astuteness, confidence in public speaking, strong relationship skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach are essential. You will also be responsible for leading revenue and fundraising strategies for operational and project plans. You will need to be a people person and comfortable with managing volunteers and leading a team.

Reporting to the Trust Board Co-Chairs, you will lead the Trust in its role to coordinate and support the planning and delivery of events and initiatives that form part of the Tai Tokerau region’s contribution to the Sestercentennial event in 2019 to an international standard, and facilitate the generation of meaningful legacies.

This is a part-time contract role with funding available for 6 months; your first challenge is to develop a funding programme to secure resources to implement the programme, your role included, until December 2019. The position is likely to become full time closer to the actual event, with additional roles being required. The position can be worked from home; meetings and main events will mainly focused in the Bay of Islands and Whangarei.
